Austin Ang

Trainee Music Therapist

Austin is a Trainee Music Therapist who uses music to support individuals in their emotional, cognitive, social, and physical wellbeing. He holds a Master of Arts in Music Therapy from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, and has experience working with neurodivergent children and older adults living with dementia.

Austin believes that music can provide a meaningful and familiar way for people to express themselves, connect with others, and experience moments of comfort and joy. His approach is person-centred and flexible, adapting musical experiences to each individual’s needs, abilities, interests, and personal history.

His areas of special interest include emotional wellbeing, neurorehabilitation, ageing and dementia care, and supporting communication and self-expression through music. He particularly values creating a safe and supportive environment where clients can participate at their own pace and experience music as a source of connection and personal meaning.

Outside of his clinical work, Austin is a guitarist who enjoys exploring a wide range of music, from contemporary styles to Chinese and international oldies. His appreciation for familiar and nostalgic music also informs his work with older adults, where meaningful songs from different stages of a person’s life can become a starting point for connection, reminiscence, and self-expression.
